Tips for Reoccurring Carpet Stains

Cleaning in general is a challenge, now add carpet cleaning to the mix. Going down an endless rabbit whole of chemical mayhem awaits. So, we took it upon ourselves to identify the main causes of reoccurring carpet stains and what solutions truly work.

Reoccurring carpet stains reappear not for the lack of cleaning but rather what components the stains are made of. These stains are called soiling or wicking stains.

Soiling

When you utilize a carpet cleaner on a stain, and the rug cleaner isn’t removed properly through a rinse or blotting, it creates soiling. The extra buildup becomes tacky over time and when the leftover cleaner sits overtime, is passed on to stew, it will start to attract soil, debris, and other gunk, it is no surprise the stain will come back to haunt!

Wicking

On the other hand, wicking indicates deep stains. Wicking stains absorb through multiple layers of the carpet. What does this mean?  The surface of the carpet gets cleaned, but the carpet continuous to absorb moisture and other contents. Eventually resurfacing on the carpet fibers. (Did someone say new carpet?).

Both issues lead to reoccurring carpet stains for most carpets. However, here are some tips to remove those stains at a moment’s notice.

A quarter cup of non-bleach detergent mixed with water

If your carpet is soiled, use a quarter cup of non-bleach detergent and mix it with water. Afterwards, apply it to the stain and dry the area. This will help remove the stain. For better results, be sure to apply the mixture several times, dry the area after each application.

One tablespoon of ammonia mixed with a cup of water

Another way to clean troublesome carpet stains is with ammonia. Ammonia is generally used in the most effective cleaners out there and could prove to be a game-changer for carpet stains. Moreover, this mixture is one that could easily be prepared.
